ARTICLE I

 

NAME AND PURPOSE

 

Section 1. The official name of the organization will be determined by the club; currently, it is Moose Ultimate Southwest (MUS).

 

Section 2. The purpose of this organization is to provide opportunities for student growth by learning and playing the sport of Ultimate in learning and competitive environments.

 

ARTICLE II

 

MEMBERSHIP

 

Section 1. Membership of this chapter is based solely on interest; no one shall be excluded on ability, experience or time commitment.

 

Section 2. Membership is not determined by school affiliation, although the club is based out of Southwest High School.

 

Section 3. Proper forms and appropriate fees are mandated by the club to cover club fees, league fees, liability issues, and UPA membership.

 

Section 4. Any concerns that arise over a members eligibility due to grades, conduct, or another issue will be resolved between the coach and the player in accordance with state rules and good judgment.

 

ARTICLE III

 

GENERAL OPERATIONS

 

Section 1. The coach shall be a volunteer chosen by a committee of players and the advisor; he or she or the captains will run practices and games as they see fit, keeping in mind the spirit of the game.

 

Section 2. Contests can be, but are not limited to, approved tournaments, Twin City League Ultimate Games, State High School league games, or scrimmages set up by the club. The rules followed will be the latest version of ultimate rules, unless a change is permitted by captains of both teams.

 

Section 3. Money can be raised through donations, appropriate fees, or fundraising.

 

ARTICLE IV

 

OFFICERS

 

Section 1. The officers of the club shall be kept to a minimum, in keeping with the spirit of the game. Officers include the webmaster, the representative to the intra-club council, and the captains, but can be expanded or contracted to fit the needs of the club.

 

Section 2. Duties of the above officers:- Webmaster: to maintain the website, keeping forms, schedules, and results current, and to establish an easy means of communication for the club.- Representative Council Member: To keep the club current on polices of the school, and to participate fully in whatever meetings called for their position.- Captains: leadership on and off the field, managerial duties, as shared with the coach and other players.

 

Section 3. Selection of the above officers is left to each years club to decide. It is suggested the captains are chosen by the players and ratified by the coach. The representative may be the captain or another chosen by the captain or the coach. The webmaster may be the coach, captain, or someone chosen by the captain or the coach.

 

ARTICLE V

 

FUNDS

 

Section 1. Ultimate fees shall be levied only to offset the cost of playing and traveling.

 

Section 2. Any money raised through fundraising is allowed to be used only for reasonable purposes for the betterment of the club.

 

Section 3. All monetary collections will be deposited with Financial Services into the Ultimate Frisbee Clubs account and all expenses will be funded through this account with proper documentation

 

ARTICLE VI

 

LETTERING(Lettering Status Approved)

 

Section 1. In keeping with the spirit of the game, lettering for Southwest Ultimate shall be determined by a subjective measure of a player's dedication to their development as a player, to the well-being of the team, and to the game of ultimate itself, as determined by the coach and the player. The exact process may be determined year-to-year, to fit the current needs of the club.

 

Individual measures of letter status should address:

 

- Game and practice attendance

 

- Advancement in playing ability

 

- Service to the team and sport

 

- Sportsmanship

 

- Knowledge of the rules

 

Lettering requirements:

 

In keeping with the player-mediated nature of the sport, it is an individuals responsibility to petition the coach(s) for letter eligibility before May 1stand to assess their status in writing prior to the Minnesota State High School Ultimate League Championship Tournament at the end of the spring season. The coach(s) will provide the petitioner with practice attendance and playing time statistics if requested. All petitions will be reviewed by the coach(s) and letters awarded based on the petitions merits.

 

ARTICLE VI

 

CONDUCT

 

Section 1. It is expected that all club members will behave with respect towards themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents and the community at large.

 

Section 2. Although at present the Minnesota State High School League does not oversee Ultimate Frisbee, it is expected that members of the club conduct themselves in accordance with the rules of that organization.

 

Section 3. Most importantly, members of Southwest Ultimate shall conduct themselves according to the Spirit of the Game preface to the rules: Ultimate has traditionally relied upon a spirit of sportsmanship which places the responsibility for fair play on the player himself. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of the bond of mutual respect between players, adherence to the agreed-upon rules of the game, or the basic joy of play. Protection of these vital elements serves to eliminate adverse conduct from the Ultimate field. Such actions as taunting of opposing players, dangerous aggression, intentional fouling, or other 'win at all costs' behavior are contrary to the spirit of the game and must be avoided by all players.
